What is the difference between aluminum and aluminium?
|
Aluminum is the American spelling and aluminium is the British spelling for this ductile, malleable silver-white metal.
In 1812, its discoverer, Sir H. Davy, first called the metal alumium but then modified the word. This is one of a number of spelling differences between British and American English, such as: aeroplane/airplane, aesthetics/esthetics, colour/color, encyclopaedia/encyclopedia, paralyse/paralyze. The principle differences are: 1) a final -l is always doubled after one vowel in

Heat sensitivity considerations of aluminium
|
Often, the metal's sensitivity to heat must also be considered. Even a relatively routine workshop procedure involving heating is complicated by the fact that aluminium, unlike steel, will melt without first glowing red. Forming operations where a blow torch is used can reverse or remove heat treating, therefore is not advised whatsoever. No visual signs reveal how the material is internally damaged. Much like welding heat treated, high strength link chain, all strength is now lost by heat of th

is aluminium really best choice for your boat? We think it is!
|
Choosing the best pitch and diameter propeller for your boat is tough enough (read Outboard Expert: The Right Propeller, to find out how it’s done), but to make things even more complex you’ll also have to choose the best material: aluminum or stainless-steel. And yes, it does matter. Performance, efficiency, reliability, and overall cost are all factors that come to bear, and making the wrong choice can have a pretty dramatic effect on your boating experience. So, how will you decide? Let’s fin

What is the best nitromors type product for aluminium?
|
It’s the paint type you have to get it right for, nitromors works well on oil/solvent based paints, not so good on water based paints or powder coat.
Just don’t use caustic/drain cleaner as it strips the aluminium as well.

Hello,
[font=Verdana, 'Verdana Ref', Geneva, Tahoma, sans-serif]I´m trying to use costing to calculate cost for the old construction and use the same template to figure out the price for our new construction as this is cost reduction project. Our product is a box, with aluminium profiles and sheet metal walls. I tried to scroll through help pages but didn't find any

Why is aluminum a good heat conductor?
|
Aluminium is a metal and generally metals are good conductors of electricity. This is because most metals allow the movement of free electrons around them as they have only 1,2 or 3 electrons in their outer shell.
|
How does aluminium foil help in hiding metal from a metal detector?
|
By forming a Faraday cage around what's inside and the detector see only the "cage" of aluminium foil. The explanation is the same for every metal, not only aluminium. But keep in mind that the "blinding" method depends of some things e.g. the frequency of the detector, energy, form of the detector coil.

Polyamide transforms aluminium window profiles into outstanding insulators
|
In addition to wood and PVC, aluminium is by far the most widely used material for window profiles. The major downside to aluminium is its lower thermal insulation. The solution to this was found a few decades ago in the addition of a thermal barrier. This is a low thermal conductivity element that is inserted between the inside and outside of the aluminium profile. This insulation layer ensures a drastic reduction in the transmission of heat.
This insulati

PVC strip increases the insulating power of aluminium window profiles
|
PVC or polyvinyl chloride is a plastic which consists of 43% ethylene and 57% sodium chloride, better known as cooking salt. In order to make useful products from this basic mixture, additives are added to it. For smooth processing, for example, flow improvers are added and to improve light resistance, UV stabilizers.
Discovered by chance
The French physicist Henri Victor Regnault discovered PVC in 1838 purely by chance. His discovery then remained quiet for a long time. It was only in 187

Aluminium windows with thermal break profiles are the future
|
With rising energy prices in mind, everyone is striving for optimal insulation of their home. Most people immediately think of roof and wall insulation and double or even triple glazing, whereas window profiles are often overlooked. Incorrectly, because your double or triple glazing may only really yield a profit if the frame is properly insulated, which is the case with aluminium thermal break profiles.
“Pleasant!” That's the answer many people give to the question: "How do you want the temper

What harm does aluminium to human experience, what should notice?
|
Aluminum is a metal substance, which is not a trace element needed by the human body, and the amount of aluminum in food that exceeds the national standard can be harmful to human health.
If excessive consumption of aluminum or aluminum excessive amounts of food consumption, affect the normal metabolism of human body cell, affect a series of biochemical reactions, can cause memory loss, cause the problem of dementia in the elderly. As for children, in the process of growth and intellectual de

Why does household aluminium foil have one dull side and one shiny side?
|
SO THAT the shiny side can reflect the heat on to the item to be cooked, using a long-established scientific principle that shiny surfaces reflect heat and light. What has completely mystified me for years, though, is the fact that 99.9 per cent of people I have come across use aluminium foil the wrong way round - with the shiny side outside - thereby reflecting heat away from what they are trying to cook.

Where does aluminum come from?
|
[color=#333333][size=small][font=q_serif,Georgia,Times,]Aluminium or aluminum is a chemical element with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery-white, soft, nonmagnetic and ductile metal in the boron group. By mass, aluminium makes up about 8% of the Earth's crust; it is the third most abundant element after oxygen and silicon and the most abundant metal in the crust, though it is less common in the mantle below. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite. [url=http://www.askaluminium.com/][

One of the most important application of aluminium slug for tubes falls on raw material of pop cans. Considering how many cans of beer and various other beverage people consume around the world everyday, the consumption of aluminium slug for tubes is really shocking. Although steel also takes a considerable share of raw materials for pop cans, aluminium slugs beat it in density an

Aluminium, arc wandering at startup

Hello,
I give a first try to aluminum today.. Clean with an SS brush and acetone. I'm using 3/32 2% lanth that I balled. Balance is at 35% I have an Everlast that work backwards.( so 65% ), 120hz. And when I hit the pedal, the arc is unstable and moving around the tip until the puddle is created. After that its going ok, but at the end, when i slow down the amp, the arc stop instead of getting smaller.. Here's a few pictures of the test..
