Painted aluminium sheets for roofing include A3003 and A3004. Both alloys fall on 3000 series Al-Mn group, also known as an anti-rust series. As a matter of fact, aluminium gets rusty, too, only in a different way from iron. The rusting period proves to be a oxidation process of metals. In other words, a metal reacts to the oxygen in the air and an oxide material comes into being. Owing to the fact that most oxide materials are powder like, the rusting process is usually regarded as a symbol of decaying for most metals, which is deadly for a roofing material. However, aluminium is an exception. It’s not that it does not reacts to the oxygen. It’s so active in chemical properties that a thin layer of oxide aluminium appears on the sheet surface within days. But the oxide is firm and dense rather than loose and powder like. It functions as a special protective layer preventing oxygen from further invading of the sheet. What’s more, it does not reacts to many corrosive materials. That’s why aluminium is known as an anti-rust metal. The advantage of 3003 and 3004 alloys over pure aluminium lies in their content of Manganese, an inactive metal that does not react to the oxygen. The participation of Mn further enhances the corrosion resistance of the alloys. This proves to be one of the most important reasons why 3003 and 3004 aluminium sheets are selected as a roofing material.

The natural corrosion resistance of 3003 and 3004, however, are not enough to withstand long-term weather conditions in various regions, especially in rainy and coastal cities. This stimulates the development of painted aluminium sheets of the two alloys. The paints include PE, PVDF and PU, with PVDF the most durable and strongest in weather resistance. Haomei 3003 3004 painted aluminum sheet for roofing has a coating thickness of 25um and above, while other companies have their own thickness scope.
