What are the key issues in the aluminium value chain? - toyota1515 - 12-09-2022 The tools that ASI delivers – standards, assurance mechanisms, supply chain due diligence, chain of custody systems – are critical in helping stakeholders to identify and manage environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks. For the aluminium sector the key ESG risks include: Climate change, energy and GHG emissions; Circularity, resource efficiency, material stewardship and recycling; Biodiversity, ecosystem services and nature-positive solutions; Human rights, including for Indigenous Peoples and labour. As a multi-stakeholder organisation, and in addition to its significant producer and civil society membership, ASI engages with a wide range of downstream use sectors, addresses important supply chain risks and issues, and connects to broader (multi-material) responsible sourcing topics. Aluminium product applications with the potential to contribute positively to global sustainability issues include: Transport: Light weight, durable and recyclable solutions for growing electrified vehicle fleets and increasing transportation service demands; Infrastructure: Long-life, recyclable, lightweight and modular applications to deliver net zero, energy-positive cities, buildings, power and data networks Packaging: Protecting food and medicines through its unique barrier properties as well as reducing transportation weights |
