Best ways to cut aluminum strips? - Tyeshacon - 12-07-2018 I got some 1.5" x 3' x 1/8" aluminum plates to make custom door sills for my car. Only problem is, they're too long, and Home Depot only cuts lumber. So yeah, what are the best ways to cut it? RE: Best ways to cut aluminum strips? - Keganhirl - 12-07-2018 If you are worried about doing it right, and doing it well, take it to a local machine/sheet metal shop. The cost should be minimal. Thin aluminum is very easily distorted, be careful
RE: Best ways to cut aluminum strips? - aluhm - 12-07-2018 That was my first thougt....but 1/8" thick would be pushing it for tinsnips. Air powered die grinder would go through it like butter. Dremel would also work well, or a hacksaw if none of the other options are available. Al is not hard to cut. My first choice would be Dremel, because a hacksaw might leave burrs/jagged edges, where a dremel would generally leave it pretty smooth. Plus, you could finish it up with other dremel attachments to smooth out any rough edges left behind. |
