Aluminium alloy sheet for molds are usually required to have high strength and heat treatable alloys that display good mechanical properties, excellent workability, and easy processing features. Owing to special usages of most molds, the aluminium alloy sheet also needs to have strong corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. Among the 1-8 series aluminum sheets, those used for mold manufacturing mainly include a medium hardness 5/6 series alloy and a relatively hard 2/7 series The 5 series has magnesium as its main alloying element, also known as magnesium aluminum alloy, its alloy state including O, HXX and HXXX. The 6 series is an extruded alloy containing Al, Mg and Si. At present it takes up 70% of the aluminum extrusion processed materials in the world. Usually there are three aluminium alloy sheet alloys for molds: 5052, 6061 and 6082. Each of these has unique chemical compositions, mechanical properties and regular tempers.

The 5052 aluminium sheet belongs to the hot rolled aluminum plate series. The 5052 aluminum plate produced by Haomei Aluminium adopts the processing technology of continuous casting and rolling. It has good processing properties, corrosion resistance, weldability and deep processing performance of formed aluminum sheet. According to feedback from our clients, 5052 aluminium plate is excellent for mold making.

Our 6061 aluminium sheet goes through a heat treatment pre-stretching process, which improves its strength greatly. Although it can not compete with 2xxx or 7xxx aluminum plates in strength, its contents of magnesium and silicon brings about good processing performances and excellent welding characteristics. Moreover, it has high electroplating property, corrosion resistance, high toughness (no deformation after being processed), compact density and excellent adaptability to polishing, coating as well as oxidation.

The O and T4 states of the 6082 aluminium sheet are suitable for bending and forming applications, and the T5 and T6 states are suitable for molds with good machinability requirements. 6082 aluminum plate is excellent in both corrosion resistance and wear resistance. It has good processing properties, excellent welding characteristics, high electroplating properties, high toughness and defect-free density, used in products with high requirements on the performance of finished products like tank car bodies.
