As a new user of solidworks I am trying to work out how to design using aluminium extrusion profiles as a weldment profile.  Is it possible to save a downloaded extrusion profile and use it as you would any other weldment profile?
ichael,
I set up extrusion blocks as weldments and use them few times. In my experience this is great approach/idea but it does not work as i expected. Using extrusion shape (saved as block with multi points for LOCATE PROFILE) when used it work veeeeery slow. This my be because of too many details in my profile but this is the way i want to use 8020. On top of it corner treatment gives my troubles by not trimming groups correctly or at all. Then i need to do it manually for each corner. Corner treatment may be Weldment module bug but in conjunction with slow refresh it is pain in back to work with it. When it is done 3d sketch, profiles in group, corners it is great thing to have and easy to modify( too slow but....). I have smart feature set up for anchor mounts and weldment list with grouping same bars is helpful too. Try it and let us know about your experience, maybe i heave issue with something costing slow respond but other way it will be great way to go.
Deepak Gupta! your blog is amazing! it helps me a lot with mastering profile design!
now I am designing a profile construction with connectors, not weldment. May be there are some useful links about connectors for profiles?
Thank you!!
