Just like it’s safe to boil water in an aluminum pot or cook in an aluminum pan, it’s safe to cook in aluminum foil. Under normal conditions, nothing from the aluminum transfers to the food.

There are two exceptions. Acidic foods like tomato or citrus should not be cooked in aluminum as they can dissolve some of it. This discolors the food and gives it a nasty flavor. Also, aluminum foil is not generally safe to use in a microwave, as it can build up a charge and has lots of sharp edges and points that can spray plasma. If for some reason you need to cook with aluminum foil in a microwave, you have to do it underwater, so that the water shorts out the discharge.
