Full Version: What will happen if we use aluminium alloy disc instead of cast iron and stainless st

The Advantage of using Aluminium is that it has low density, high thermal conductivity. It works better in severe conditions like high speed and high load. Weight reduction up to 50–60 percent is possible.
But Aluminium might not be able to withstand the heat or pressure on its own. And in addition to this it lowers the braking coefficient and cause wear of brake pads. That means frictional properties of aluminium are poorer. It can be improved by adding Alloys which can increase the wear resistance and raise the temp strength.
Remember that there should not be a large difference between the densities of both the material. Otherwise, there will be inhomogeneous distribution of alloy particles during solidification which cannot be avoided.
