  May I correct a bit in the question? Elements have symbols Aluminum Chloride is a chemical compound Hence it has no symbol but a chemical formula

  So there 3 electrons in its outermost orbit
  Electronic configuration of Chlorine atom
  is 2,8,7
  So there are 7 electrons in its outermost orbit Each of them has a tendancy to have 8 electrons (octet) in its outermost orbit Hence they give or take electrons
  Here aluminum is the donor Chlorine is the

  The molecular formula for Aluminium chloride is AlCl3. It is the main compound of aluminium and chloride. It is white in colour but it often contaminated by iron chloride which changes its colour to yellow.
  
  AlCl3 has three different structures. Solid AlCl3 is a sheet-like layered cubic close packed layers. The Al centers exhibit octahedral geometry, with the central aluminum ion surrounded by six water ligand molecules.
  
  But it usually exists as a dimer (Al2Cl6) with tetracoordinate aluminium.

  A breif on how the molecular formula of Aluminium Chloride is determined.
  
  Aluminum has 3 electrons in it’s valence shell so it is willing to give electrons rather than to accept ones, while chlorine has 7 electron in it’s valence shell which makes it tend to accept electrons. As one chlorine atom will only be able to accept only 1 electron to conplete its valence shell, the Aluminum will require 3 chlorine atoms to get it self stabilised. Therefore Aluminium shares one electron with each of the 3 chlorine atoms and hence the molecular formula AlCl3. Where Al will possess positive three(+3) charge and each of Chlorine atom will posses negative one (-1) charge.
