Number of electrons present in the valence shell of an atom or number of protons present in the nucleus of an atom is known as atomic number of an element.
Aluminium is placed in 3rd A group of the periodic table. Thus group number indicates number of electrons present in the valence shell.
Secondly, atomic number of aluminium is 13,hence it’s electronic configuration can be written as ,2,8,3.
Aluminium is metal qhich shows +3 oxidation state in it’s compounds.
There is a trick, using the periodic table of elements, to figuring out how many valence electrons each atom has. The number of valence electrons = the column number (group number). Carbon is in group four, so it has four valence elections, for example. Only works for Groups 1 - 8 of the Main groups.
